Privacy Policy

BC Effective Therapies ("we", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This policy explains how we collect, use, store and disclose your personal information, including health information.

1. Information we collect

We may collect your name, contact details, postcode, preferred contact method and appointment preferences; information you choose to share about your wellbeing, history and reasons for seeking support (this is health information and is treated as sensitive); referral, Medicare, workers compensation, CTP or insurance details where relevant; and basic technical information such as browser type and pages visited, collected through cookies and analytics tools.

2. How we collect it

Directly from you when you complete our suitability check, contact us by phone or email, or attend sessions. With your consent, we may also receive information from your GP, psychiatrist, referrer or insurer.

3. Why we collect it

To respond to your enquiry, understand whether our services may suit you, arrange and provide appointments, process Medicare, workers compensation, CTP or insurance claims, meet our legal and professional obligations, and improve our website. We only collect information that is reasonably necessary for these purposes.

4. Disclosure

We do not sell your information. We only disclose personal information with your consent, to your referring GP or treating practitioners where you have agreed, to Medicare, insurers or scheme providers for claims you have authorised, to trusted service providers who help us operate (such as website hosting, email and secure data storage) under confidentiality obligations, or where required or permitted by law, including where there is a serious threat to someone's life, health or safety.

5. Overseas storage

Some of our technology providers may store data on servers outside Australia. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is protected in a way consistent with the APPs.

6. Website analytics and advertising

We may use cookies and analytics or advertising tools to understand how our website is used. Answers you provide in the suitability check are never shared with these tools.

7. Storage and security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, including access controls and encrypted connections. Clinical records are retained for the period required by law and professional standards, then securely destroyed.

8. Access and correction

You can ask to access or correct the personal information we hold about you by contacting us. We will respond within a reasonable time.

9. Questions and complaints

If you have a question or concern about your privacy, please contact Bozena Chambers on 0414 755 229 or at bchambers@iwrs.org. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
